Cyproterone Acetate

Antiandrogen

Cyproterone acetate has been found useful in androgen-related dermatologic disorders, such as hirsutism and acne vulgaris. Its antiandrogen activity decreases the sebum excretion rate and inhibits hair growth.

Dosage and Administration

Oral: Tablets: 50 – 200 mg

Safety Information

If used alone, cyproterone acetate leads to menstrual cycle disturbances. When used in combination with ethinyl estradiol, menstrual cycles are not affected.

Blood glucose monitoring is recommended as cyproterone acetate may increase blood sugar levels.

It is advisable to limit or avoid drinking alcoholic beverages while taking Cyproterone. It may decrease the effectiveness of this medication.

Cyproterone acetate is contraindicated in people with liver or kidney impairment.

Adverse Effects

Side effects include weight gain, depression, and loss of libido.

FDA Pregnancy category X

Cyproterone acetate is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, as feminization of the male fetus can occur.
